Real Wedding at The Meekermark

ALEX AND MARCUS
OCTOBER 3, 2020 (MEAN GIRL’S DAY!)
THE MEEKERMARK

I’M KIND OF REALLY PICKY ABOUT THE STYLED SHOOTS I DO BECAUSE THERE’S SO MUCH WORK THAT GOES INTO MAKING SURE THAT IT’S ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AND THAT IT CAPTURES EVERY ASPECT OF THE VISION YOU HAVE. THIS STYLED SHOOT WAS PUT TOGETHER BY MAXYNE LEANNE PHOTOGRAPHY, AND SHE ASKED ME TO COME IN ON THE DAY OF TO HELP OUT. AND LET ME TELL Y’ALL - I’M SO GLAD SHE ASKED ME TO! MAXYNE HAS BECOME SUCH A DEAR FRIEND OF MINE, AND WHAT SHE CREATED WAS SO BEYOND BEAUTIFUL. THIS WAS ONE OF MY FIRST EXPERIENCES WITH A STYLED SHOOT AND IT DEFINITELY SET THE BAR PRETTY HIGH!

Scroll on through to learn a little bit about them and how they made their wedding day special to them if you’re looking for some ways to make sure that when your guests walk in, they go “yep, I’m in the right place!”

the proposal

“My senior year of college, I spent 3 months in Germany for a study abroad program. It was the first time in 6 years Marcus and I had ever been apart. The time difference made it so that we were unable to talk most days. We both had to make some pretty big life decisions during that time and it was then that we both (separately) decided that we didn't want any of those decisions to exclude our other half. After I got home from Germany, we went to dinner on Marcus' birthday. After dinner, we pulled into his driveway and there were hundreds of twinkle lights hung from the trees. He lead me over to a bench where he got on one knee and before he could even get a word out I screamed "yes." Never found out what he was going to say in that speech. Oops. He had a beautiful ring designed special for me and every single moment of the proposal was so thoughtful and special. Still one of my favorite days ever.

WHAT WERE SOME OF YOUR FOCUSES ON WEDDING DAY AND WHY?

“My biggest goal was that my wedding was fun. I didn't want a stuffy, super serious, uptight wedding. I wanted to joke during the ceremony & have a giant dance party after.”

ALEX AND MARCUS HAD TONS OF PERSONAL TOUCHES THROUGHOUT THEIR BIG DAY. IT WAS SO COOL TO TURN AROUND AND SEE ANOTHER LITTLE GLIMPSE OF THEIR PERSONALITY AND THEIR LIFE TOGETHER!

“Some of my favorites were: Dr. Pepper Shootouts from my favorite bar as the signature cocktail, Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits delivered for the exit, The Aggie War hymn as the last song, Our (very non-traditional) song "Gives You Hell" by the All American Rejects playing mid-party. The list goes on and on. I wanted to include little sprinkles of inside jokes and fun memories everywhere I could.”

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF THE WEDDING DAY AND WHY?

“I think I have two. The first has got to be when I finally reached the altar. I had been so nervous all day and prayed the whole time I walked down the aisle that I didn't just pass out. When I finally made it to the front and stood in front of my soon to be husband, the man just started cracking jokes. It was EXACTLY what I needed to relax and enjoy the ceremony. The second is when we did the generations dance. My mom and dad were the last couple dancing and gave us advice. Of course we have been receiving ear-fulls of relationship advice from them for 8 years now. But there was something so special about seeing my parents, after 37 years of marriage, standing there encouraging us on our first day of marriage.”

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS/ADVICE TO SHARE WITH COUPLES GETTING MARRIED?

“My number one piece of advice is to CONTINUOUSLY remind yourself the reason you're planning a wedding. The wedding industry can be overwhelming. There's a lot of pressure to make everyone happy & include every person you've ever met in your day. Covid really put that all into perspective for me. Set your goals for your day with your significant other and don't budge on those. Keep in mind that it's supposed to be a fun & happy time. Invite YOUR people, pick out YOUR favorite things and enjoy YOUR day. Everyone will love it no matter what.”

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO HIRE A PLANNER/COORDINATOR:

“I initially had not planned on hiring a coordinator. I honestly didn't even know what that meant. When we booked the Meekermark they told us that they required a day of coordinator for their brides. Initially, I didn't see why I would need one, but after hiring Sierra for month of coordination, it was 1000% worth it. I had so many questions and concerns (covid bride probs) and having someone who knew what they were doing to guide me in the right direction was a game changer. Having a coordinator day of also meant that I didn't have to worry about a single thing from vendors, to decor, to schedule, it was all covered.”

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE AGAPE WEDDING CO.?

“I felt immediately like Sierra was so excited & sweet and I loved her energy. She makes me feel like we’ve been friends a really long time & not like this is just a “business transaction.” She's ok with my chaos - we don’t take things too seriously & love to have fun and Sierra understands and helps make it happen. I also thought her Instagram was so sweet & I loved that it was devoted to the couples and not the details. She was very helpful in answering questions & pointing me in the right direction.”
